Bambina with first foods
I admit, as do all other first moms, I am sure that this is one of the most challenging moments for us: feeding them with solids. I was ambitious and excited the minute I know that my bambina was going to be eating her first solids. I read several books and mentally prepared a daily menu for the week. I also kept in mind about keeping the diet strict with no sugar or salt added as me ir mum prepped her meals. It was amazing to see that bambina gobbled up almost everything we gave her.
But,after 3 months exposing bambina to mashed, puréed food, she decided to rebel.Ever since she grew out a few teeth, she began to utilize them as much as possible by wanting to bite everything that she can. She began to be picky with the food I gave her and only wanted to feed on milk. Then, I started to give her foods with different textures, for example pasta, less mashed brown rice, small slices of chicken with pumpkin, bread, sliced apples, baby carrots and corn. Still keeping the sugar and salt low, I began to tweak the menu for her. Alhamdullilah, her appetite came back and she is eating 2 meals a day now.
At 10 months, with her growth increasing at full speed, I try to feed her foods that are high in nutrition and vitamins. As she also begins to know the different tastes, I elaborate foods that are natural in sugar and salt in her menu so that she will get a pinch of her own sense of tastiness.
But at times, I try to be flexible when we are out and let her have a taste of sweet treats such as ice cream and soft cakes.
I don't usually prep her meals weekly. Me and my mum will try to do it daily. Most to most, we'll keep it up to 2/3 days in the freezer then dispose.
This is boiled chicken breast with rice and mixed vegetables, mashed slightly with my mashed tools( I gave up on deciding for food processors). My girl loves the natural taste of chicken or fish stock after it has been boiled. Me or my mum will tend to rotate between these two meats at times or incorporate other sources of protein and fibre such as spinach, avocado or pumpkin into rice or brown rice or pasta. My mum has also includes tomatoes.
Mum has been a great help, helping me prep Bambina's meals while I plan and shop the groceries for the meals. It's such a pleasure having an elderly in the house looking after n making sure I'm doing things right. I am so thankful for that. Syukur alhamdullilah.
