The birth story

Our lives are curated carefully by our creator,Allah SWT. Our fate always lies in the most perfect timing and place.
And in my account, my fate was about to change on 30th June '16.

4.30am. I woke up and had my pre dawn meal. 1 more week till Eid. I am already on maternity leave and am trying to use this extra time before I pop, to spruce the house up for Raya. I have made plans with mum to go to Ikea this weekend to splurge on our last minute ornaments. Mum told me she had the weirdest dream that I was about to give birth. And forced me to gobble or at least down some infamous freshly made pineapple tarts by Aunt Gee before azan for Fajr.
After prayers, I could not help but update a status on my Facebook page. Mama dreamt I gave birth today.

As much as I wanted to give birth for at least a week from now, I already had a gut feeling that my baby is coming sooner than I think. Or perhaps, I may be wrong.

Later that morning, Fyi and I went down ro Dr A's clinic as I was due for my weekly checkup.

Today was my ECG scan, determining if I already had contractions.

Half an hour later, I stepped out of the room and the nurse announced that Dr A had to go to the hospital for an emergency delivery. Then, the nurse called upon my name and urged me to see the doctor now. He told me hastily that my contractions were already 2-3 minutes apart and I was already in labor.

Masyaallah. Suddenly all sorts of thoughts ran through my head. Dr A ended giving us a lift to the hospital to check myself in. Weird thing is, I was not in pain at all. It was 2 in the afternoon.cNothing felt.

After I was safely checked into the delivery room, Fyi went home and took my hospital bag. 1cm dilated. Hours passed and all I felt was excitement. I was chatting away with the girls, taking some pictures and watching reruns of Masterchef junior and Empire.
Dr A came a few hours later to check up on me and suggested me to induce. 1700hrs. 2cm dilated. Still nothing felt. I refused to induce and made a deal with the Dr that if I couldn't dilate to 6cm by midnight, then I will get myself induced. Meanwhile, I did whatever I could to make the cervix dilate. Squats, walks, u name it. I was on it.

2300 hrs. Still not much pain. 5cm dilated. So we decided that I get induced. I already anticipated the pain from my previous delivery and was ready to do this. At the same time I felt really nervous. More than I did before.

0200 hrs. The pain was kicking in. Still bearable. And I tried to nap.

0300hrs. Sharp and vivid pain. I couldn't sleep anymore. Tried to concentrate on something else like watching tv and taking the gas but it only lasted for a while. I decide that when I'm not on gas, the contractions were less painful.

0530hrs. Felt like shitting. I was all over the place because the pain was unbearable. Like a thousand knots on the tummy. This is it.

0544hrs. With one big push, finally a gorgeous girl named Noura Iman weighing 3.345kg was born. Skin to skin contact for about 1/2 an hour.

Giving birth was the most painful yet beautiful  experience I have ever had. The satisfaction was extraordinary in more ways than one. Now I understand why Allah SWT chooses, tests and elevates the status of each woman almost immediately after giving birth.

Masyaallah.
